Designed to solidify key techniques & expand your knowledge, the Refresher Course will help you approach your next steps with confidence, making sure you’re fully equipped to pass your RCI Assessment. A Rock Climbing Instructor is qualified to teach climbing skills, take people climbing, bouldering & abseiling on single pitch, sport crags & indoor climbing walls. Revisiting anchor building for top-rope, bottom-rope & lead climbing. Checking & using fixed equipment safely. Rope management techniques: belaying, coiling & knot-tying essentials. Understanding fall factors, load distribution

TEACHING &
GROUP MANAGEMENT
Effective communication & instruction for diverse client groups. Managing group safety in outdoor environments. Adaptive teaching methods to suit beginners through advanced climbers. Building confidence & trust with clients.
RESCUE TECHNIQUES &
PROBLEM SOLVING
Problem solving in high-pressure situations: stuck ropes, incapacitated climbers, climber gone off route, jammed abseil device or adverse weather.
EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL
SAFETY
Learn how to select suitable equipment for personal & group use & the ability to evaluate the condition of equipment in line with manufacture’s guidance. How to manage dynamic risk environments in outdoor crags.
NAVIGATING & ACCESS
Best practices for minimising environmental impact. Landowner permissions, access agreements & outdoor ethics. Navigations skills for safe route-finding & managing groups in remote settings.
ABSEILING
You may need to personally abseil for a variety of reasons which may include: retrieving equipment etc. Abseiling is also a commonly activity on it’s own, you will learn how to support & safeguard novice participants.
PLANNING & STRUCTURE
OF THE SESSION
Choosing the right venue, activities & routes for the group can make or break your session. In the case of an incident know how to call for relevant assistance. Using guidebooks & other resources.
ETHICS &
LEAVE NO TRACE
Discussion of ethical considerations in climbing, including minimising environmental impact & respecting
access rules.

WhAT DO I NEED?
We’re not suggesting you to go out & spend all the money on all the latest technical kit, this is just a sensible list that in terms of keeping safe & comfortable, works. In the same vein, the weather on the day & the time of year will be big factors to help decide what you will & won’t pack.
