GUIDED SCRAMBLING
Moving over steep ground without the full complexities of a rock climbing day, scrambling is an amazing & unique way to explore what the mountains of the UK have to offer as well as getting away from the crowds & busy paths. Hands will have to be use to make progress & rope work may be needed to safeguard the steepest of stuff but ultimately, it’s a fast & freeing way to add an extra dimension to your mountain experience.
scrambling Grades
GRADE 1
The scrambling is relatively easy with short rock steps & outcrops broken up with sections of walking. Ropes are not normally used but can be if needed.
GRADE 2
The scrambling is more advanced where ropes are normally used to safeguard you as the rock sections can be longer, trickier & more exposed.
GRADE 3
The scrambling has short sections of rock climbing where more advanced techniques for rope work are used. Most routes are more committing & sustained.
Who is this course for?
Scrambling requires the “scrambler” to have some hillwalking experience but due to the wide range of challenges there is something for everyone. Ultimately, scrambling is for those who seek a more adventurous & hands-on experience than traditional hillwalking. Above is a brief description of the 3 main grades that categorise scrambling & some example/options of what the grade entail.
WhAT DO I NEED?
We’re not suggesting you to go out & spend all the money on all the latest technical kit, this is just a sensible list that in terms of keeping safe & comfortable, works. In the same vein, the weather on the day & the time of year will be big factors to help decide what you will & won’t pack. Ascent guides are more than happy to give advice and/or answer any questions you have regarding kit.

GRADE 1
A classic outing & a quintessential grade 1 scrabble. Never desperate, never sustained, good rock all the way but enough to get the adrenaline pumping.
EAST RIDGE OF Y GARN
GRADE 2
A great and popular scramble, exploring rocky steps and small outcrops. Then a crescendo of exciting moves & fine exposure to finish.
